There are many reasons I love Canva and find it the most useful app and probably the one I consider gives me the best value for money. I have narrowed my thoughts down to the 5 reasons I use Canva and think it is so valuable.
Canva is a graphic design app that offers a multitude of design applications which are useful to small businesses. The initial app is free, but even the price of £10.99 a month for the “Pro” version is worthwhile in my opinion.
Why is Canva so great?
I will say it again, I love Canva. Its is so easy to use, has an enormous range of free templates, gives you access to images and graphics, fonts and brilliant design ideas. You can even set up your own business branding and share your work with colleagues if working collaboratively. It’s so useful!
What can I use Canva for?
Canva has an enormous range of ready-made templates under the headings of Social Media, Personal, Business, Marketing, Education and Trending. In my previous life as a teacher, I would have been delighted with the excellent worksheet templates within the education section, but nowadays, this would be my least used section.
Personal
This section is probably the section I use least, but should explore more. Within the Personal section there are templates for invitations, cards, and even t-shirts! I certainly need to revisit this. The postcard templates could be extremely useful as a promotion of my business or to say thank you to loyal customers.
Social Media
I would say that Social Media is the area I use Canva most.
1. Image editing.
Sometimes I take an image and find that I dislike the background or the image needs cropping and a branded colour scheme added, or some text. Within Canva you are able to erase backgrounds, edit image sizes and add coloured borders, text and effects. I find this particularly useful when I want to add a photo to a social media post and make it more branded and professional.
2. Social Media Posts
Canva provides you with templates specifically designed to fit Instagram and Facebook posts and stories. You can even design a branded Facebook cover and thumbnail images for YouTube posts.
Once you have chosen your brand colours and font you can save this information and maintain your brand image throughout your social media posts.

Marketing
3. Flyers, Posters and Marketing Materials
It has never been easier to design an entire range of branded marketing materials. Canva provides templates for flyers, posters and postcards. Once you have decided on your brand colours and fonts, you can design a professional set of marketing materials and even print them through Canva itself, or download your designs and print them elsewhere.
4. Infographics

Infographics are basically a hybrid of a poster and an information leaflet. They combine an attractive visual element, with the written word, meaning that people are drawn to your content for the eye-catching design and also appreciate the valuable, easy to absorb information you offer. They are great for sharing key points, data and charts. Once shared on your business website and linked throughout all forms of social media, your valuable content brings people back to your website and improves your authenticity as a knowledgeable business owner within your field.
5. Testimonials and Reviews
Once a customer has been impressed enough to provide your business with a glowing review, it is helpful to share it. Let other people know how wonderful your business is by sharing that review. Canva has an entire section devoted to design templates for testimonials. You can create a stunning, eye-catching, branded post for social media or marketing materials based around a great customer review.
